Veteran’s Park is getting a much anticipated face lift. Located downtown directly across from the Holyoke Transportation Center, Veteran’s Park is a recipient of “Gateway Cities” funding. The $1.4 million renovation will create a focal point for Holyoke’s historic monuments while providing a great setting for outdoor events. Newly planted grasses and shade trees will surround broad accessible sidewalks and park benches. Electrical renovations will make it possible to provide electricity for public events as while keeping the park well lit with new energy efficient lighting.
Other improvements include installing new concrete sidewalks and curbing, including Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb cuts, accessible ramps and crosswalks; installing new benches, trash receptacles, and bike racks; installing new fencing around the park’s monuments; installing new plants, including 21 trees to replace 28 trees that will be removed and renovating existing turf areas.
